PRESENTATION
Domaine de la Folie is located in CHAGNY in Burgundy, between the villages of Bouzeron and Rully, at an altitude of about 300m.

Chagny is the first place between the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, and its neighbours include such prestigious appellations as Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet, Santenay, Mercurey.

The name "La Folie" goes back a long way and possibly refers, according to some historians, to a place where witches and fairies used to meet...

Domaine de la Folie and its almost 17 hectares of white and red vines in the Rully Appellation has been in the BOUTON family for two centuries. The Marquis BOUTON de Chamilly, a Maréchal de France under King Louis XIV, lived 6km to the west of Chagny.

The estate also belonged to Beaune physiologist Etienne-Jules MAREY, a Professor at the Collège de France, and a precursor of cinema.

He was interested in studying every aspect of movement: cardiography, chronophotography (cinema), aviation, fluid mechanics. He was the inventor of the "Chronophotographic Rifle" - one of which can be seen at the Marey Museum in Beaune.

The remains of the observation towers created by MAREY for his studies can still be seen in the grounds around the estate. MAREY was a great nature lover and was largely responsible for redeveloping and enhancing the vineyards at La Folie.
OUR APPELLATION

The RULLY Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée covers a total of about 300 hectares and is one of the 5 appellations of the Côte Chalonnaise, continuing on from the Côte de Beaune and just before the Mâconnais.

The sub-soil boasts the same vein of clay-limestone that is found in Puligny. Pinot Noir for the red wines and Chardonnay for the whites are the only grape varieties used in the RULLY appellation.

The basic yields are:
46 hl/hectare for the reds.
50 hl/hectare for the whites.
